foisting crap

wasn’t anywhere near a tv to catch the men’s halfpipe finals tonight. no biggie right? that’s what the internet is for. except ctv and nbc force you to install silverlight to watch video and bbc is region blocked. sorry but i’d rather keep my computer functional. i wonder how many computers got messed up because silverlight was the only way they could watch olympic video (not that flash video is any better for us poor mac users).

barcelona

got to spend almost a week in barca recently as part of our EU vacation. while i had a good time i’m not sure i would go back. we were staying in a great hotel right in the Born district so right in the thick of all the cool kids area but it just felt like there wasn’t much to do that we were into. don’t get me wrong, its got great architecture, great food, nice people, good weather, etc but it just wasn’t for me.

i loved the la boquiera market. reminds you of where meat comes from. an actual animal not a cello wrapped styrofoam tray. had some great meals with the highlight being Cuines Santa-Caterina where we had an all-time tuna tartare on a bed of guacamole (thanks to @grapesofkath for the recommendation). the ginormous Zara’s and H&M’s are a sight to behold. found a new lust object that i ended up not buying and can’t find anymore.

not much to write about really, so now its been there, done that. next stop, berlin. oh and the paella… such a let down.

it ain’t right

the more i read about Windows Phone 7 Series the more impressed i am. now to see if the reality lives up to the hype six months from now.

(ick, i feel kinda dirty praising a MS product)

refreshed

after a nice extended jaunt through the EU and months away from blogging, the need to ramble seems to be making a return. the first manifestation of which is this little blog refresh (inspired by snow-mag.com) we’ll see how long the motivation lasts. oeuf, 12 posts in the 2009, weak. hopefully we can beat that for 2010.

fantastic mr. fox

great movie and a recommended viewing. it hooked me from the opening scene of mr fox doing his morning calisthenics. love the art direction and the quirky humour. classic wes anderson.

patiently waiting

been on a cooking bent lately so on a whim i ordered us a Staub cocotte. can’t wait for it to arrive so i can try making rillette.

how to spend the holidays

yvr -> bcn -> sxf -> bru -> cdg -> yvr

can’t wait. oh and we got in here.

the unanswerable question

what is more extreme?
‘XXX’
‘xXx’
‘XxX’

your tailor is not your friend

they gleefully point out the inadequacies of your aging body that they must cover up and hide.

so self conscious right now but too lazy to do anything about it.

tax dollars at work

for the first time in my life i feel like my tax dollars are actually doing something.

i complained to the city about some holes in the dog park that Santos hurt herself in and several days later they were filled.

i can just picture a bunch of grumpy, burly dudes in safety vests cursing under their breath while navigating shovelfuls of dirt through doggie landmines.

i’m shocked. really i am.
