the simpsons movie

i had to sit on this for a day to fully absorb the experience that is the simpsons movie.

so the basic story is that homer causes an environmental disaster that has terrible ramifications for springfield and his family. of course being the simpsons nothing is that simple and the story keeps driving relentlessly along bringing joke after glorious joke.

highlights (that i can remember, there was so many):
the opening chalkboard sequence
how the president makes decisions
bart’s execution of homer’s dare
bart and flanders
martin

anyways, if you like the simpsons you’ll love the movie and even if you don’t like the simpsons, its still a wickedly funny movie.

taken for granted

sometimes i forget how lucky i am to live in this corner of the world. spent the weekend in whistler keeping the girlfriend company while she did some work up there and we got bored and decided to head up top for something to do.

there were literally squeals of delight from the tourists up there. they were so happy at seeing snow and taking in the views. whereas for us it was just “meh”.

its been a while since i’ve gone on a big adventure trip and it was always fun to look out the window on final approach and compare it to where i’d just come from. each place i’ve been is beautiful in its own way but we just seem to have something special here.

one sentence music reviews

common – finding forever
mmmm mmmmm good… unlike the corner which seemed to have more ups and downs, this album is consistently good but it doesn’t have a stand-out banger.

white stripes – icky thump
reminded me of something old and southern.

yeah yeah yeah’s – is is
feels like they chopped apart the old album in garageband and mixed and matched it together to create this ep.

interpol – our love to admire
not bad, not great, as expected and that makes it good.

diplo – florida
when he steps away from the mash-up game he sounds a lot like dj shadow.

over on style.com the intrepid tim blanks made his way over to japan for some store tours. the most interesting is a shop named icho. not only are the clothes bespoke, the goddamn fabric is too!!!!

and then over at number (n)ine the guy running the joint has this crazy ass skull. normally i hate the whole skull motif but there are some exceptions. mexican “dia de los muertos” style skulls and the one this dude has. its a tibetan prayer skull. f’n dope.

parking lot

did anybody watch the european grand prix yesterday? hehe the first few laps were hillarious. teams with the wrong tires in a torrential downpour resulted in a parking lot in the gravel trap at turn 1.

i think estimates for the cost of a single f1 car is in the 6-8 million dollar range so that’s probably the world’s most expensive parking lot right there.

deathly hallows

stupid canada post didn’t deliver my copy of the last harry potter book until around 2pm on sat but that didn’t stop me from doing a marathon session and finishing it later that night.

its good. harry’s still his whiny, clueless self but the story progresses along great and lingering questions are answered, threads are tied up, tons of people die and the ending was, while not unexpected, satisfying.

new shoes

been going a little stir crazy cooped up in the house so i agreed to be dragged off for a little window shopping. big mistake. well not really. ended up finding an insane deal on a pair of paul smith brogues. dip dyed, distressed, hand painted interior. sick. over 60% off so i couldn’t pass that up and i’ve been in need of a nice pair of shoes to wear with denims or dress pants. still, a bit of a hit on the old pocketbook.

those fat cats up in ottawa in my bed have it too good these days. this is what happens when you’re the building slut. you get fat and get waddle. Leon used to be a nice lean cat. now he’s a lazy fat cat ready for a cushy politician’s job.
