poor Kazu, such great style on snow, however its his off snow style that’s got him in trouble with his native japan. i don’t get it though. haven’t any of these people criticizing him at home walked through shinjuku station or harajuku even? sheesh.

been hanging out in whistler doing the festivus. arrived bright and early thursday morning for some shmoozing/riding. some highspeed burners with some skiers but it was all good.
the evening saw us at the trouble show, where despite being the title sponsor of the event, it took us over half an hour to get into our own party. sheesh. and the worst part is, the bar had been busted for being over capacity the night before resulting in them being super strict and the bar feeling vaguely empty. read more »

been getting up on snow a bit lately. made it up to whistler on sunday for a fun day of shredding despite the top to bottom rain on whistler and the landslide that closed the highway greatly delaying our return. however, i seem to have forgotten how to snowboard. rocked a fabulous toe edge catch to scorpion on whistler. and rocked a fabulous heel edge slam complete with cutting the inside of my mouth on seymour yesterday during another on-snow demo. sheesh. at this rate i’ll be on an LTR board by the end of the season.

oeuf! spend all day yesterday running a little on-snow demo up at whistler with all the new gear. running laps with the crew from showcase and westbeach. goddamn i suck now. my poor chicken legs were rubber by lunchtime and it didn’t help that the ‘laps’ were top to bottom speed runs. i somehow managed to offset leg cramps by stretching all the time but i looked and felt like an old man. long day but fun none the less.

has it really been a week since my last post? sheesh. i’m a slacker. i guess it has been pretty busy around here. i’ve started incorporating on-snow testing into my line presentations which makes for a very long day. by the time i get home i’m pooped and pretty much pass out on the couch.
its been fun though. getting a few hours of riding in the morning up at Seymour. its good to see how much everybody brightens up from even a few runs even in less than ideal conditions. our fri morning mission got cut short due to the rescue operations going on for that snowshoer. the SAR crew were buzzing up and down under Mystery chair with their sleds so Seymour didn’t want to risk any collisions. did a couple laps under the Lodge chair where a few school groups were rocking out. talk about dedication. kids in jeans, no beanies, sunglasses instead of goggles. some kids didn’t even have gloves. didn’t faze them one bit they were having a blast. kinda puts things into perspective (aka, i’m a whiny bitch)
been kinda half-heartedly searching for a Wii. i can’t really afford it but it would be kind of fun to have.
i finally got those Urich dunks. oddly they fit bigger. every pair of nikes i own fits differently. you would think that a company as big as them can afford to develop a standardized fit. again…i’m a whiny bitch.
noodle box disappointed me twice now. their singapore cashew curry was bland. and then today the spring rolls were too salty and they lost my satay order. grrr…i’m a whiny bitch.
well now that we’ve got that straight….

i always enjoy talking to Kelly at 540 board shop in kelowna. he’s been in the game for so long and we always end up reminiscing about the good old days of snowboarding. he recently had a customer bring in a burton contact with baseless bindings circa 1995. we got into a big long discussion about things coming full circle since we got some new shit for 08 that is definitely inspired by some classic old technology.
he was also telling me about some crazy faux-snowboard thing that was essentially a molded crazy carpet that screwed onto a real skateboard deck. weird huh?
makes me wish i kept all my old riding gear. my original burton cruise 155. sims switchblade 165. burton pj 149. burton a-deck 149. i would have quite the museum if i kept everything i every rode. boohoo…

its only taken five years but i’m finally starting to get more riding time in with my work. got some turns in on mt. washington on monday. tuesday saw us reschedule some meetings to get some pow turns in up at whistler. then on wednesday, accomplished the ‘trifecta’. we rode all three local hills in one day. not bad huh. so its not christmas yet and i’ve already got 9 days on snow. stoked.

i’m sitting in Denver Airport killing time waiting for my flight home. i decided to park myself at the gate for NYC in some kind of wishful hope that they’ll take me there instead.
the past week has been exhausting. thin air combined with constant alcohol and snowboarding takes its toll on you. i can’t wait to get home. i don’t think i got a decent night’s sleep the whole trip. oeuf.
so what happened while i was away?
