ok gift shop

ok gift shop

the movie we were going to see last night was sold out so we ended up wandering around downtown and wandered down to alberni street. now i always just walk by those japanese tourist stores but for some reason i was inexplicably drawn to this one. maybe it was the self-confident name “OK Gifts”. you know they’re so dope they can say “we’re not great, we’re just OK but you’re going to shop here anyway bitches”.

so what’s inside? well let me show you…

richmond night market pt 2

richmond night market pt 2

well i don’t know how i got talked into going after the sonic assault that confronted me last time out. (well yes i do, it was so funny it hurt) but unfortunately for our return appearance no such luck on the entertainment front. so i had to resort to actual browsing this time around and started to tally up the counterfeits. of course there were the usual haute couture brands but given my occupation i was more interested in the so called action sport/street brands such as:
roxy
billabong
stussy
diesel
ed hardy
bape
phat farm
es
quicksilver

but no burton. i guess we really don’t matter outside our own little world yet. either that or our factories actually keep a lid on our intellectual property.

i did however find this vintage chinese army messenger bag. i’m not sure what the characters say (i’m so white) but i’m sure its something along the lines of “work harder bitches!”

home of the despot pt. 2

home of the despot pt. 2

i knew it was too good to be true. after all the hooha i had to go through last time i thought it would’ve been all good. should’ve known better. got the call on wed afternoon that they only had 7 of the 8 blinds. great. i figured i better go grab the 7 before they lost them or something.

got them home started hanging them and guess what? the custom cut? well i think they hired gerbils to gnaw them to size. the worst edges known to man.

so another trip to the despot and had a conversation with the clerk. so now the rep is coming in on tuesday and they’re going to show the blinds to the rep and i’m requesting that they swap out the blinds with factory cut ones with real edges. what a pain in the ass.

oh and i knew the blinds were cheap but to have the screws twist apart under hand power is just ridiculous. so now i have pieces of screws embedded in my window pane. grrrr…

stay tuned for part 3.

finally…a decision

finally...a decision

at last! been agonizing over a color palette for the bathroom reno for too long. tile shopping on saturday resulted in inspiration and a decision. grayscale. stealing a page out of the 07 idiom colorstory pages. now that its decided i’m stoked. i think its going to look hot.

work the system

the mighty home of the despot actually came through for me yesterday. i had originally ordered some faux-wood blinds for the house back in early may. supposed to be a two week delivery. well a week later they called me and said the blinds were backordered and they’d be an additional two weeks and did i want to wait. so i figured i’d wait it out.

well when they didn’t call last week to tell me my blinds were in, steph called ‘em up and they said july 9. needless to stay i was less than stoked on roasting to death in my own house for an extra month. so off to home depot we go and after 2 hours of negotiations with the clerk and the manager, i got them to upgrade me to real wood blinds (although in a different color) for only a small upcharge and they’re instock. so i’m supposed to go pick up the blinds tonight and hopefully it’ll all work out.

denim

denim

now i’m not usually the biggest fan of diesel but came across a pair that i really like the other day. the Shazor in the 88z wash. why? super crisp dark indigo denim. dope paisley waistband and pocketbags. some cool embroideries on the inside of button fly and colored tightly surged (eg. fake selvedge) seams on the inside. good times.

izze

izze

recent discovery. its a good time. izze beverage company. its kind of like a high end all natural koala springs i think. so far i’ve tried the clementine, grapefruit and pear (the shizz). cool looking graphics on the bottle too (isn’t that how we all make our purchasing decisions?). available at capers and whole foods. oh and apparently the sell them at starbucks but i wouldn’t know cause i don’t drink coffee. blech.

dutil

dutil

new shop in gastown that opened up recently. called “dutil”. its a denim only store run by a guy who used to work at richard kidd. its got a great selection of high end denim including the usual hot brands but also some J Brand, Joes, Hudson, Loomstate, Levis but also my new favorite, Konzo. the red chainstitch down the side…so money. now if only i could scrounge up $750+tax for them…

but more important than the brands they carry was their merchandising…H-O-T. they had bales (literally big tied up blocks) of old jeans. they had rolled up old jeans neatly tucked away into racks. original wood floor. you know the instant you look inside that you’re in for denim paradise.

they had their big grand opening party last weekend, lets hope they do well. dutil. 303 W. Cordova, Vancouver, BC.
