the police were in full effect at the richmond night market this past weekend. busting vendors left and right for counterfeit goods. however, the question is…how do they decide which vendors to bust? most of the vendors have some counterfeit/knock off wares available yet only one or two get busted. the particular instance i witnessed was for some fake coach handbags with their distinctive c pattern. yet no more than two stalls away were knock off billabong hats or puma bags. there wasn’t the copious amounts of LV, Fendi and Prada bags this past weekend due to the presence of the 5-O but i’m sure that the busts were just part of an early show of force and in a few weeks everything will be back to normal.

we’ve been spending the past few days checking out condos around town trying to find something for next year. its been a blur of smarmy salespeople, interior design slight of hand and number crunching. i was pretty stoked on the South Granville Lofts development but today we got a chance to visit the Bowman Lofts on Beatty street. and they’re pretty dope. beautiful brick, concrete and exposed timbers. unfortunately the units we were after are just out of reach. boo-erns.

addicted

goddamn me and my denim g-star obsession. had a meeting in yaletown yesterday so of course i dropped into global atomic to see what’s new. and whaddaya know…some new jeans that i’m in love with. the “officer radar narrow” but i’ve decided i’m going to go back and talk to warren (the owner) and see if he can special order me another pair that i’ve been lusting after since last fall. stupid g-star and their gazillion shipping windows a year. they’re going to be the death of me….

some updates on two companies i’ve been backing for a while.

nau finally gets its webstore up and running. if you’re going to go outdoor-chic, might as well be good to the environment.

on the other hand. if you’re a baller and can afford to go bespoke streetwear then Serum vs Venom has dropped their third collection.

oh and if you somehow got an invite to the TED conference and aren’t going, feel free to donate it to me…

must be a record

one hour detour through IKEA and only $6 spent. must be a new record for lowest bill.

just wasn’t feeling it. everything screamed out 16 year old decorating their bedroom for the first time. blah.

did a little browsing for mattresses this past weekend and i gotta say, the margin on these things has got to be greater than high fashion. i’m thinking on the order of 80 margin. it can’t cost more than one or two hundred bucks to make a mattress that sells for well over two thousand dollars. especially memory foam mattresses. that shit is just straight up EVA which you know cost them all of 50 cents per square foot to manufacture. but goddamn if those memory foam beds don’t feel great. i can’t stand the bouncy bouncy of spring mattresses anymore.

iron army

iron army

i’ve been investigating these guys for a while now and i think i want a pair. two guys from alberta that started their own denim line and found enough success to move down to LA and try to make it big. i first found out about them due to their 777 project.

the thing i like about their denim is the contrast stitching that follows all the seam lines like a drunken sweat shop seamstress. not sure about the fit though which is what will make or break it for me. i just found out that the g-star core sec jeans i just got have a 12 inch opening! i knew they were narrow but that’s crazy! apparently dutil is an authorized iron army retailer so i’ll have to wander down there eventually to check it out.

i’ve also finally found a pair of prps that i like and i’m curious to try on some crate denims too. man, i need second income just to dress myself.

boxing day

woke up early to sneak in a little boxing day shopping. wasn’t going for any big ticket electronics or anything (although i wish i was) but i did find a few things.

started out in yaletown early but they weren’t open yet so headed to Holt Renfrew and a few stores on Robson, but we’re incredibly finicky shoppers and didn’t find anything worthwhile.

headed back to yaletown and hit the jackpot. Global Atomic is fast becoming my go to for clothes. picked up a nice pair of Uppercut wool pants and a pair of anti-fit G-Stars. however due to the anti-fit nature, i ended up with a 33 waist. i’m fat. luckily its just a number and not how they actually fit. phew.

but the true find was at Scandesign where we finally found a dresser. floor model with a few minor scuffs but hey it’s $1000 off!

how do things like this get made and why don’t i own it?!?! we were going to buy it but it was missing the actual characters. boo-erns.
