common – finding forever
mmmm mmmmm good… unlike the corner which seemed to have more ups and downs, this album is consistently good but it doesn’t have a stand-out banger.

white stripes – icky thump
reminded me of something old and southern.

yeah yeah yeah’s – is is
feels like they chopped apart the old album in garageband and mixed and matched it together to create this ep.

interpol – our love to admire
not bad, not great, as expected and that makes it good.

diplo – florida
when he steps away from the mash-up game he sounds a lot like dj shadow.

ratatat remixes vol 2
pretty damn dizzope. very similar to vol 1, seems like a lot of the same chord progressions but slightly different. but new tracks to mash them onto so its all good. Slim Thug, Jay-Z and Biggie tracks are standout.

kanye – can’t tell me nothing mixtape
a bit of pure gold but mostly pure ass. r&b needs to pull a vanilla ice. stronger is going to be one hot track when the album drops though.

rick ross – port of miami
some gold ol’ head nodding, thug-hop. don’t know why it took me so long to get around to checking it out, especially since hustlin’ has been killing it for so long.

go team – thunder lightning strike
another album i’m late to the party on. heard some of there stuff before but never knew who it was then i saw the trailer for the PS3 game littlebigplanet and the trailer was using this super catchy song and i had to figure it out and lo and behold. album is hipster/scenester but good nonetheless.

timbaland – present shock value
try army and navy value. ugh. craptastic in every sense of the word.

that’s it for now. on deck, new fabolous, talib kweli, rjd2, white stripes.

balls!

i still haven’t dragged myself out to go see Borat. i will soon though, same with the Departed. i’m very much looking forward to Casino Royale though. the most recent ones were getting pretty cheesy but this is supposed to be a grittier dirtier Bond so i’m excited. plus its got a 95% on rottentomatoes.com

the new Jay-Z is pretty dope. nothing ground-breaking but pretty good overall. two really bad R&B tracks in there though.

OK…i’m going to admit it. Heroes kicks ass. probably taken over top spot for tv show most determined not to miss since Lost has taken to sucking lately. call me a geek but its a good story with good characters and its a story well told. the fact that they have superpowers is secondary. but Lost…would Jack and Juliet hurry up and get it on already. Kate’s a royal pain, the addition of the two new characters is just begging for them to be killed any second now. and now no new eps until Feb? WTF?!?!?! oh and caridee or amanda is going to win this cycle of ANTM. and thank god team alabama is out of the Amazing Race. i’m surprised by how well the cheerleaders are doing, i hope they make it to the final 3.

so with all the road time comes lots of ipod time.

P Diddy – Press Play – Should be called press eject. Its bad. I read a review that said it was catchy and good with lots of guest appearances. It was crappy and bad with lots of guest appearances.

Jurassic 5 – Feedback – Sounds like every other album they’ve put out. How about growing as artists guys?

TI – King – Pretty fun. Big, bold, in your face bragging in Dirty South style. It’ll probably get old real fast but i like it.

Team Canada – Classic Material Volume 1 – So good for epileptic white dancers. Awesome mash-up album. The Biggie over Pink Floyd track is the highlight and waaaay too short. Can’t rave about this album enough. My only complaint is the continuous “Team Canada” shout outs.

Girl Talk – Night Ripper – Another mash-up album. More polished than Team Canada. Super inventive cuts and sometimes mashed up 3 deep. Definitely worth checking out. However about 2/3 of the way through, the cuts get so short you feel like there should be a cheerleading competition going on.

Easy Star All Stars – RadioDread – Supposed to be an amazing reggae version of Radiohead. Try snoozefest. I guess i’m biased cause when i want reggae now i go dancehall Three Kings style.

Ludacris – Release Therapy – I always liked Luda cause his rhymes were just so goddamn funny. Seems like he’s grown up. The beats are still OK but its not bust-a-gut funny anymore.

The Roots – Game Theory – Yes the hype is true. As good as, if not better than Things Fall Apart and makes you forget all the crap they put out in between.

The Game – Doctor’s Advocate – Hey Game, end your beef with 50 and get him and Dr. Dre working together with you again.

Fergie – Dutchess – Sorry dear, the botox and public incontinence can’t help distract from how bad this album is.

JT – FutureSex/LoveSounds – Nice hook on the single, the rest is pretty average.

Paris Hilton – Paris – So it was so good it made you cry huh? Well i must admit that for cheesy pop there were some good hooks on the odd track but overall it only made two listens before it got punted off the iPod.

i love my neighbours

i love my neighbours

so in a normal neighbourhood on a rockin friday night to kick off a long weekend one expects the odd party and loud music. we’ve got that too….at this exact moment, the lion king soundtrack (more specifically, the lion sleeps tonight) is drowning out our television…sheesh

a friend turned me onto these guys a little while ago with their “get ‘em high remix” of kanye’s track. since then they’ve been in constant rotation. the album has been out for a while but its still good.

there’s their self titled album (itunes) with the super hot track “seventeen years”. (i had actually come to like this track last year not knowing what it was when it was featured on a burton fashion show) the album itself is just music, no lyrics and best described as guitar driven electro? i dunno. i’m not good with labels. could almost qualify as soundtrack music? but being more of a hiphop kid, i gravitate more towards their “remixes vol 1″ album. taking some fun hiphop tracks and mixing in their guitar riffs. writing about it makes it sound weird but the sonic result is dope. there’s remixes of kanye, jay-z, missy, dizzee, beanie siegel, raekwon. good shit.

oh and they’ve got a new album dropping in august. can’t wait.
