the little details

the little details

who’d a thunk it…or in a more grammatically correct sentence…who would have thought that a small detail like how a button is sewn onto a shirt could be so damn cool.

this little extravagant detail courtesy of bespoke shirt maker Seize Sur Vingt.

did you know that i share the same birthday as karl lagerfeld?!?! that makes me very excited for some reason. perhaps i’m hoping some of his genius made it into my pea brain.

jackets

jackets

well since fall is just around the corner, i’ve been looking for a nice jacket. and its pretty damn hard. mostly due to lack of fundage.

this is a nice candidate though. black heavy wool nom de guerre. its a steal at $750 when you put it up against the dior jacket i saw at barneys but i think i’m going to have to lower my standards a bit more.

anybody going to nyc or japan mind doing some shopping at uniqlo for me?

i wonder what walmart’s got in store…

i don’t know why i do it. we end up going to a lot of high-end fashion stores when shopping with the girlfriend and i always end up wandering into the guys section. i should really stop.

in seattle the other day, wandered into the new barney’s and of course fell in love with two different ridiculously out of reach pieces.

a dior homme jacket. kind of a car coat/military jacket in black of course. super nice fabric but more importantly a great cut and fit. $1295

a raf simons 3/4 length wool trench with some very unique very cool pocket openings. they were shaped kind of like amoeba, backed with a metallic lining. $1695

oh and i went to lay my grubby little paws upon an iphone. love it. want it. need it.

over on style.com the intrepid tim blanks made his way over to japan for some store tours. the most interesting is a shop named icho. not only are the clothes bespoke, the goddamn fabric is too!!!!

and then over at number (n)ine the guy running the joint has this crazy ass skull. normally i hate the whole skull motif but there are some exceptions. mexican “dia de los muertos” style skulls and the one this dude has. its a tibetan prayer skull. f’n dope.

go here then head to the video section, navigate to the store tours channel and click on tokyo.

new shoes

new shoes

been going a little stir crazy cooped up in the house so i agreed to be dragged off for a little window shopping. big mistake. well not really. ended up finding an insane deal on a pair of paul smith brogues. dip dyed, distressed, hand painted interior. sick. over 60% off so i couldn’t pass that up and i’ve been in need of a nice pair of shoes to wear with denims or dress pants. still, a bit of a hit on the old pocketbook.

better than going naked i suppose

apc. at least they’re not quite as simple as they used to be. a little more design in them. i like the sergeant pepper jacket except its in corduroy. i think that jacket in a nice tight wool or a cotton canvas would be pretty sick.

g-star also has its new collection out. adding footwear this year. i like some of the boot styles but unfortunately they’ve gone with rubber soles on all of them. maybe next season… i’m pretty stoked on the look with the suspenders, something i looked for this past season but i gotta try it on first to see if my vertically challenged frame can pull it off.

sneaker doldrums

sneaker doldrums

there’s been a drought. perhaps not of biblical proportions but enough to leave me parched. i’ve almost given up on trying to find more sneakers. i blame it on the AF1. its stealing all the hype and creative juices. either that or i’m getting too damn old.

i mean let’s see… the AF1 comes in what, Classic, Premium, Supreme, probably a dozen collabos, original 6, city series, 360 outsole, its endless.

then there’s the endless Jordan reissues, Pigeon rehashes “inspired”.

i am however starting to back some of the adidas reissues though. we’ll see. i need those paul smith boots first though. oooh or maybe some timbalands, then i can be like X to the Z, Xzibit. what are those things in his hair anyway?

window shopping

window shopping

checked out the newly renovated Holt Renfrew today. damn nice store. huge. lots of different interior treatments and cool design details. leather covered tables. triangular skylights. etc. gave me lots of inspiration for the house. got dragged around some of the women’s stuff and i must say that balenciaga has got some cool ass trims. crazy metal buckles and snaps that are screwed together.

finally found a pair of g-star handcrafted denims. up until now they haven’t been available in canada so i was very stoked to see them live. so dope. black and silver rivets. whip stitching. the interior was completely finished. amazing detailing. however…$375. oeuf.

nice pair of paul smith boots. $695. just that right mix of worn looking yet new. nice layered leather outsole. don’t know what tops would go with it though.

the funniest part about the new holts? if you’re in the mall and you want to go to sport chek, you have to walk through holts. haha.

whistler update

whistler update

been hanging out in whistler doing the festivus. arrived bright and early thursday morning for some shmoozing/riding. some highspeed burners with some skiers but it was all good.

the evening saw us at the trouble show, where despite being the title sponsor of the event, it took us over half an hour to get into our own party. sheesh. and the worst part is, the bar had been busted for being over capacity the night before resulting in them being super strict and the bar feeling vaguely empty. read more »
