wow, that’s bad

wow, that's bad

have you seen the new logo for London’s 2012 Olympics? its pretty bad. kind of a 80′s electro clash monstrosity gone wrong. the colors, the shapes, the way the olympic rings just don’t ‘fit’. our inukshuk logo is starting to look pretty damn good.

so i was introduced to the royal magazine about two years ago and loved it but have only been able to find one other copy since. now i find out that they’ve got a website (duh) and have full PDF issues of their magazine posted. yay! i’m usually pretty good at finding things online but how i missed this i don’t know.

they’re part of the KDU collective which i’m also a fan of, especially SVSV, which i wish i could afford. oh well…

how do they do it?

the iphone isn’t shipping for six months, has only been announced for barely six hours yet i can’t get away from it. i browse a pretty diverse and schizophrenic collection of websites but there it is. the iphone. fashion blogs, celebrity gossip sites, sneakerhead sites, news outlets, snowboarding sites, the list just goes on and on.

apple’s power to put its fingers firmly on the pulse of what we want is just uncanny but combined with their marketing prowess, and the strength of their brand and its cachet just blows me away. even coca-cola or nike can’t get that kind of press coverage for a product launch.

its no secret that i love my apple gear, but the emails i got today from non-mac owning friends and acquaintances that were all “have you seen the new iphone” was just crazy. even the goddamn fedex delivery guy was like “so what do you think of the new iphone?”

how fun would it be to work in their marketing department…

countdown

the big apple product announcements are due on tues… anxiously waiting to see what toys they come up with this time. crossing my fingers hoping for the iphone. i’m such a geek. actually…is something still geeky if it wins industrial design awards? hmmmm…. maybe i’m not a geek.

they’re fighting back!

they're fighting back!

the forest creatures that is. check out these amazing vinyl toys by Patrick Ma of RobotWorld. the IWG (Insurgents Wilderness Gruppo). Mataku the penguin is the best.

oh yeah…i forgot to tell you about the volvo concept car that was hanging out at the open house at our sales meeting. a volvo that Liam Griffen teamed up with tuner Heico to create something a little funky. check it out here.

cult of design

this won’t be of much interest to you unless you have a fascination with industrial design/apple. interesting if that sort of thing floats your boat. link
