been posting less lately now that i can do quick tourette’s blasts via twitter. cleans out the pipes. you don’t get that yucky buildup that suddenly just lets go…
except for now. had one very lame, geeked out weekend triggered by spending money.
been thinking about upgrading ye olde macbook for a while now but was holding out to see what apple came up with. frankly, not impressed. prettier package but more expensive and not the features i wanted. as a result, kept my eyes open for a deal on a new drive. lo and behold ncix did a black friday special. seagate momentus 7200.3 in a monstrous 320GB for $90! who can resist? of course while the actual physical install took less than 5 minutes, the data backup and restore took about 8 hours. woke up saturday morning to an upgraded laptop that vibrated like a motherfucker. stupid new drive was wonky and vibrating way too much. so back to ncix for a replacement and reinstall and data restore and finally success.
with that out of the way it was time to turn my attention to upgrading steph’s macbook pro to leopard. of course that means another multi-hour backup prior to upgrade but at least that went smoothly. or so i thought.
turns out the backups are now corrupted due to some stupid error with our NAS box. i hate the lacie etherdisk mini. its a pile of junk. slow, noisy, crappy quality and poor design choices. this is our second one (first one mysteriously died) and this time the file directory structure got corrupted which means you can’t reliably access files. even dropping into unix commands couldn’t solve the problem. which means formatting and starting all over again. bullshit.
now that just leaves dropping the old laptop drive into the ps3. i’ll leave that for next weekend after we go to the christmas tree farm…
i’m such a lame-o

on another note, the day we got back from tokyo, we picked up the keys to our new place and the movers moved all our crap in the next day. we’ve been settling in and unpacking ever since. eventually i will post some pics of the new joint. its damn nice to settle in after being homeless for almost six months.
(also part of the reason why updates of been lacking)

la dee da dee, we like to partee..
i thought after working an almost 60 hour week to wrap up all my work shit before i go away i’d be relieved and ready for my vacation but somehow i’m not. if anything i’m filled with a sense of foreboding dread of the shit storm i’ll likely have to come back to. being an Account Manager sucks that way. everybody else is relying on you in order to do their shit.
anyhoo, the countdown is on, 2.5 days till i’m on a plane to the land of the rising sun.
filled up the iphone with subway maps from these guys. downloaded some extra iphone apps (lonely planet japanese phrasebook and chalkboard) to help with communicating with the locals. also grabbed a bunch of the superfuture maps and just emailed them to myself. sucks that the photo app can only handle pics up to 640×480.
we’ve done a bunch of research on getting around and talking to some friends about getting around there but i’m a little worried ’cause there’s some pretty obscure stores we’re trying to find and the addressing system there isn’t very easy to understand. but hey, isn’t that half the fun of travelling.
i hope to update via twitter and possibly photoblog to here from the iphone so stay tuned.

so there’s a Canadian election coming up. i can’t say any of the candidates are remotely interesting. there’s something wrong when your vote is going to be for the least evil of all options. contrast this with the US election where Obama is so engaging and charismatic. can’t really speak to his party’s actual platform but damn if it isn’t so much more interesting than ours.

if you’ve been following the news at all you’ve likely heard about the US economy and its meltdown and the impending fear of rising inflation. we’re at 2% or so and headed towards 4% or something like that. think that’s bad? how about poor old zimbabwe. their inflation rate? 2 200 000% yup you read that right 2.2 million percent. obviously if you grocery shopping, $100 bills aren’t going to get you very far so the government has just introduced the hundred billion dollar note. that’s $100 000 000 000. that’s a lot of zeroes but it’ll only get you a couple of oranges. suddenly mr. burn’s trillion dollar bill makes a lot of sense.

this is still really making me angry. mad enough that it will actually, for the first time ever, move me to take part in the political process. i rarely vote, especially civic elections, but i will vote over this issue and may even email my local MPs about it. goddamn lobbyists…

i wonder how far you could get only shopping in stores ending in:
-barn
-safari
-mart
-galleria
-hut
i’m sure you could end up with some pretty sweet style…

this site needs a redesign but i’m too lazy. i deal with web crap all day at work and i don’t want to deal with it at home. but the layout is assaulting my eyes (especially the css image fuckups) and my laziness with image sizing is annoying me. bah!
i was hoping by not posting for a while and ignoring it, it would go away, but Steph is showing me up with her massive legion of fans of her blog. damn girls…
