i totally forgot we were totally in the area when this happened. can’t believe we missed it all.
i realize its been a while since i’ve done any movie reviews so here’s the short versions:
quantum of solace:
good but i was expecting more, too bad about that Aston Martin though…
kung fu panda:
a few good laughs but missing the heart that pixar movies have.
the bank job:
neat little heist flick and the role suits jason statham well.
maid of honour (saw it on the plane):
gag
i forgot about this pair of jeans that just wasn’t meant to be that i found in Japan. we were wandering around in Laforet and found the Nudie store where i found these. a recent post on slamxhype reminded me about them. they were part of the nudie lab collection and were selvedge, hand distressed with a tinted wash. they were pretty hot but also worked out to about $750! eek.
i am still looking for a pair of thin finn’s though. i think i need a pair that are in a lighter distressed wash. i’ve gotten lots of black and uber-dark denims lately so i need some balance. when i was in uniqlo buying the T-000’s in black, there was a sale on (buy 2 get the second half off) i hesitated cause i wasn’t sure how they would break in and now i’m regretting it because they fit awesome now and the other pair i wanted was just the wash i’m looking for now. boohoo. woe is me.
i love this photo (via hypebeast) and it made me investigate the jacket itself which i thought i liked but i’ve since been shot down by a comment of “for you?? really??”
i guess i’m stuck in a zoolander-esque ‘one look’
or more specifically a swarm of angry bees in front of a series of megaphones a la bart simpson. now that you’ve imagined that sound, multiply it by 10 and that’s about what a formula one car at full throttle sounds like. i think my ears are still ringing and it was almost two months ago.
this should give you a little idea.
it also turns out that Honda just announced they’re dropping out of F1. something about the current economic climate. rumors are that more teams will fall. combine that with bernie and max’s incompetent, money-grubbing management and pretty soon there will be no more F1 to watch. medals instead of points?! are they high?!
been posting less lately now that i can do quick tourette’s blasts via twitter. cleans out the pipes. you don’t get that yucky buildup that suddenly just lets go…
except for now. had one very lame, geeked out weekend triggered by spending money.
been thinking about upgrading ye olde macbook for a while now but was holding out to see what apple came up with. frankly, not impressed. prettier package but more expensive and not the features i wanted. as a result, kept my eyes open for a deal on a new drive. lo and behold ncix did a black friday special. seagate momentus 7200.3 in a monstrous 320GB for $90! who can resist? of course while the actual physical install took less than 5 minutes, the data backup and restore took about 8 hours. woke up saturday morning to an upgraded laptop that vibrated like a motherfucker. stupid new drive was wonky and vibrating way too much. so back to ncix for a replacement and reinstall and data restore and finally success.
with that out of the way it was time to turn my attention to upgrading steph’s macbook pro to leopard. of course that means another multi-hour backup prior to upgrade but at least that went smoothly. or so i thought.
turns out the backups are now corrupted due to some stupid error with our NAS box. i hate the lacie etherdisk mini. its a pile of junk. slow, noisy, crappy quality and poor design choices. this is our second one (first one mysteriously died) and this time the file directory structure got corrupted which means you can’t reliably access files. even dropping into unix commands couldn’t solve the problem. which means formatting and starting all over again. bullshit.
now that just leaves dropping the old laptop drive into the ps3. i’ll leave that for next weekend after we go to the christmas tree farm…
i’m such a lame-o
