that would be suge knight. this time around he gives props to Paris Hilton for spending more time in the slammer than most so-called gangsta rappers.

oh and while we’re at it, lets not forget the recent BET awards where dear old 50 got busted lip-synching his performance. seriously dude, how out of shape are you?

and since we’re talking about 50, have a gander at the relative cost of a gram of coke in different countries around the world.

internet echo chamber

internet echo chamber

as an apple fan, i’ve obviously been following all the hype and press around the impending iphone launch. i want one but unfortch i’m stuck in canada with ass-raping cell phone rates. nevertheless, the level of vitriol and buffoonery in the interweb never ceases to amaze me. you can almost break down the types of conversations into groups.

preachers:
“i pronounce that the ipod doth sucketh” despite never having actually used one.

economists:
they’ll usually point to the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). “WTF $600 + $60/month for 24 months!” ummm…right because every other cell phone you buy gives you free usage for two years.

feature-geeks:
“it doesn’t have (insert feature here) that a freebie phone has!” right. and how many times have you used the pickle jar widget? oh what’s that? you can’t figure out how to find the widget buried 30 menus down? oops.

brand haters:
closely related to the feature geek. hates on the iphone cause its apple and would rather have the Chi-Tai-Soo brand phone they picked up for $2 but then had to take 6 months of language lessons to learn some obscure dialect of Mongolian Highlands Chinese to read the menus.

microsoft schills:
“apple sucks microsoft rules!” – um, i didn’t get my check from microsoft last month.

apple fanboys:
“steve jobs! woo!” – ’nuff said.

oh and then there’s the asshat (Dvorak) who’s comparing the iphone to hitler.

there’s more but i’m getting bored of this already. i want to play with an iphone and once i do i’ll let you know what i think (although you don’t care).

massive movie roundup

massive movie roundup

caught up on some movie watching in the past month and have been negligent in my duty of boring everybody with my uninformed opinion so now you have to suffer through a bunch.

oceans thirteen
thoroughly enjoyable if you can suspend your disbelief (their solution to the big “problem” is absolutely ludicrous). its a good caper flick and soderbergh always makes very stylish, slick and polished movies. everybody is perfectly coiffed and stylish with fancy (although improbable) technology. but the bottom line is the movie was fun and never took itself too seriously.

the departed
can’t say i’ve ever been much of a scorsese fan but this was a damn good movie. the characters were great, the story was well told and i found myself clenching my jaw in anticipation. a little excessive in the gore but it helped the story and i guess the greatest praise is that i didn’t notice or pay attention to the styling, art direction or cinematography cause i was too wrapped up in the story.

the fountain
always been a big aronfsky fan. this movie was a little too convoluted for my liking. interesting story; i like the inter-connectedness of the different time periods but ultimately i think the slowness of the pacing killed it for me. great art direction and cinematography though.

spiderman 3
blah… i was hoping for more. i never followed the comic much but was always intrigued by venom but this movie did nothing to satisfy that curiosity. i’m sure this movie cost a shitload but it didn’t come out on screen. spiderman swinging through the city still looks retardedly CGI-ish. sandman was a waste of time and a stupid character. the whole harry/green goblin story line was just lame. but the part of the movie that was the absolute worst? when spiderman’s coming to the rescue of MJ and as he rushes to the scene of the big fight, he pauses on a rooftop…in front of a giant American flag blowing in the wind… bitch please!

happy feet
better than spiderman 3. but that’s not saying much but hey, its a kids movie and i cared more about little mumbles than i did about peter parker. they should have labeled it an animated musical though.

the good shepherd
i started it and then started browsing the internet and eventually turned it off. i can’t remember the last time i turned off a movie.

the holiday
its a romantic comedy. i had no choice. jack black is always singing in his movies. didn’t love it, didn’t hate it which is a positive review right? right?

heavy shit

heavy shit

don’t know why it took me so long to stumble across this but i’m glad i did. a documentary series of short videos filmed by an iraqi family and american film crew living in baghdad. watch it, even just one, and compare it to what you see in the mainstream media and make your own decisions about what’s going on over there.
