just call me imelda

two more shoes i’m trying to track down…

ouch

my nose hairs are freezing everytime i breathe. it’s fricking -27 degrees celsius here in kelowna. i need a beach somewhere warm…

local hills

local hills

headed up to the north shore for a little snowboarding today. man i forgot how much i hate riding on the shore.

short runs and long lines make jon something something…go crazy? actually it made me resort to things like doing seal imitations down the hill. unfortunately, my blubber has gotten slick enough to actually allow for decent sliding.

oh and i love how extreme everybody is up there. mad lineups for six inch high booters. and you know there’s extreme radness going on when you hear the short staccatto “woo!” call of the teenage male snowboarder.

man i’ve been out of it all day. mostly due to waking up frozen and with a cough this morning cause somebody keeps stealing the blanket in the middle of the night. i’ve been so out of it i got the dreaded paper cut between the finernail and the finger and then when cooking dinner i almost lopped off the tip of my thumb. luckily i only lost part of my nail.

and so it begins

spent the past 3 days up in whistler doing some work. finally managed to get my first day on snow! woohoo! couldn’t have asked for a better first day.

it started off kinda sketchy. super long lineup for the gondola and then they packed us in like sardines. however, just past midstation the gondola started slowing down and stopping. this cycle continued for the next half hour turning a normally 15 minute ride into a 45 minute ordeal. turns out the main bullwheel at the top was overheating.

got to the top to a ton of fresh. literally my first turn of the season was into knee deep pow. that continued on for the rest of the day. riding with a super fun posse including sollors and robin, two of our sponsored riders.

my new Ions are killing me. they seem tighter this year. hopefully they’ll break in OK otherwise i’m fucked. broke in the new AK pants and the Mark XIII Paul Smith jacket. loving it. so nice and dry.

oh…and i’m out of shape. oeuf.

productive

i spent all of saturday wallowing in my own crapulence. this can be easily translated into not leaving my own bed, having food brought to me in bed and catching up on Lost season 2 on DVD. go me!

media update

media update

i still haven’t dragged myself out to go see Borat. i will soon though, same with the Departed. i’m very much looking forward to Casino Royale though. the most recent ones were getting pretty cheesy but this is supposed to be a grittier dirtier Bond so i’m excited. plus its got a 95% on rottentomatoes.com

the new Jay-Z is pretty dope. nothing ground-breaking but pretty good overall. two really bad R&B tracks in there though.

OK…i’m going to admit it. Heroes kicks ass. probably taken over top spot for tv show most determined not to miss since Lost has taken to sucking lately. call me a geek but its a good story with good characters and its a story well told. the fact that they have superpowers is secondary. but Lost…would Jack and Juliet hurry up and get it on already. Kate’s a royal pain, the addition of the two new characters is just begging for them to be killed any second now. and now no new eps until Feb? WTF?!?!?! oh and caridee or amanda is going to win this cycle of ANTM. and thank god team alabama is out of the Amazing Race. i’m surprised by how well the cheerleaders are doing, i hope they make it to the final 3.

birthday week?

so it was the girlfriend’s birthday recently and she’s been claiming that she gets a birthday week! seems like a made up creation to me. if it was legit hallmark would have a seven pack of birthday cards.

damn holidays

its still well over a month away yet the malls are already packed to the rafters with rabid shoppers. has the world gone crazy? this past weekend, the girl and i had to brave the mall to find her dad a birthday present so we ended up at metrotown. sheesh! i should’ve brought body armour. luckily we were on a mission and got in and out pretty quick.

but today i ended up in guildford mall for some work related activities and it was just as crazy and it was like 1:00 on a thursday afternoon. wtf?!?!

i think i’m going to pledge not to buy any presents for people from a mall this year.

interesting quote

Naturally the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. …Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

This fine little ditty brought to you by Hermann Goring, 2nd in command of the Third Reich.
