cult of design

this won’t be of much interest to you unless you have a fascination with industrial design/apple. interesting if that sort of thing floats your boat. link

oh and i wrote about this little app, coverflow, back in early july. i sure hope apple bought the company or paid them out cause it sure is a damn good ripoff. that album cover feature is pretty nifty though. i never got around to incorporating coverflow into my usage but it will be, via apple, now.

they had to go and introduce new gear today didn’t they. bastards. although i have to admit i’m not purchasing anything. strange i know… i must be sick.

i’d like a new nano, but 8gb isn’t cutting it anymore. i want a 16gb nano. and the 8gb only comes in black. i want blue! goddammit! i do like the new packaging though.

movies…interesting. i’m a HDTV junkie so i don’t think i’ll bite yet but their “itv” project looks very tempting. if i can download and stream HDTV wireless to my tv i’ll jump on it for sure.

i did however get the nike+ sportkit today. looking forward to trying it out. now that i’ve managed to drag the girlfriend out running in the morning. see how pathetically out of shape i am.

i’ll let you know my nike+ ID once i get going so we can race online! haha!

ah yes…squampton. we managed to head out there for a little hike this past weekend. not that big a deal right? well except for the girlfriend doesn’t hike. so what better way to get her into it by starting with one of the more challenging casual hikes. i had to keep telling her that “sak’s is having a big sale at the top”. it worked but it definitely didn’t impact our speed much seeing as how we were passed by (apart from the regular hikers):

sea legs

sea legs
is this the start of something? last weekend went out on a steph’s dad’s boat for the afternoon. this weekend, my brother decided to surprise the family with his new powerboat. bastard. its pretty damn spiffy though.

we ended up going for a little tootle around howe sound and ended up lounging in the only pocket of sun hovering over bowen island. not a bad way to spend an afternoon although pounding through some heavy swells at 30 knots didn’t really sit to well with mom. pops was impressed though.

unfortunately, my brother was only able to get moorage in richmond so going out in the boat resembles a game of frogger on the fraser river dodging deadheads.

wait for it

new store…”ie”…gastown…dropping mid-Sept.

magic 8-ball, is this related to the crew at livestock?
“it is certain”

magic 8-ball, is it worth waiting for?
“without a doubt”

magic 8-ball, will they carry nom de guerre?
“cannot predict now”

the empire

another new store dropping soon at the corner of 4th and burrard…could it be another venture of the comor group? what does the magic 8-ball say? “all signs point to yes”

Guu

finally managed to dine there the other night with my mother. somehow we managed to sneak right in and get a seat at the counter. typical of a japanese restaurant all the staff yell out a greeting as you enter which is part of the vibrant atmosphere in this home-style japanese restaurant.

nice concise menu with a large specials sheet. all the dishes are tapas sized. we got through 7 dishes before throwing in the towel and they were all fantastic.

news you may have missed

news you may have missed

gotta love the media and its ability to determine what is and isn’t worthy of reporting. obviously this article is presenting one point of view but its always good to look at both sides of a story. or in this case, pointing out a story you may not have heard about.

oh and in another case of misdirection and obfuscation, we have the BBC reporting that there was indeed no link between Saddam and al-qaeda before the iraq war. oops. nice work mr. bush.
