finally managed to dine there the other night with my mother. somehow we managed to sneak right in and get a seat at the counter. typical of a japanese restaurant all the staff yell out a greeting as you enter which is part of the vibrant atmosphere in this home-style japanese restaurant.
nice concise menu with a large specials sheet. all the dishes are tapas sized. we got through 7 dishes before throwing in the towel and they were all fantastic.
the standouts though was the salmon carpaccio, thin slices of salmon sashimi with some sort of amazing dressing. the duck mushroom salad was thin medium rare slices of duck with sauteed mushrooms on a bed of lettuce with an amazing wasabi dressing. and then there was the mackarel…ahhh the mackerel…i could eat that every day for an eternity. perfectly grilled with a spiced crust on a bed of sliced onions and oranges…amazing.
its rare that my mom actually likes the food at a restaurant (she’s very particular) but she thoroughly enjoyed this one although she would go back because its “too loud”. i don’t have a problem with it.
oh and they have this weird signature thing where almost every dish has fried garlic chips on them. yummy delicious but your partner will hate you afterwards…
